Christmas Tree Farms in Metro Detroit

Perhaps you’ve seen the huge Christmas tree at Ford Field – that spectacular Concolor Fir that fills the main entrance to the arena – and wished you could have such a wonderful experience of both sight and smell in your own home. That’s the glory of a freshly cut Christmas tree.

Michigan residents, especially those in Metro Detroit, have their pick of trees with a large number of Christmas tree farms in the area. For example, the huge tree at Ford Field came from Dutchman Tree Farms, a family-owned and operated tree farm in the Northern Michigan town of Manton. That farm carries nine varieties of cut Christmas trees in sizes ranging from three feet to 50 feet.

Going to cut down your own tree is a great family tradition, and many people travel around the region to find just the right one. These tree farms will help you cut it or you can do it yourself completely. The farms also tend to sell other products for around the home, including wreaths, roping and other Christmas greenery.

Arend Tree Farms near Chelsea was always our family tradition,” said Rachel Webb, a Detroiter by way of St. Louis who recalls visiting this beautiful tree farm as a kid and enjoying the trip to find a tree with her dad.

Designed for family outings and scenic getaways, the Chevy Traverse provides comfort and convenience for every journey.

Here are some Christmas tree farms around Metro Detroit that combine the thrill of the hunt with holiday cheer.

Broadview Christmas Tree Farm

This Highland farm is a great spot for its size and array of trees. The farm is about 118 acres, so you can roam for miles if you want. It also has a great nature experience where you can see deer, turkeys, pheasants and fox around the area as you search for your tree.

Candy Cane Christmas Tree Farm

This Oxford farm calls itself an “Earth friendly” farm because of the founder’s organic practices. They continue to receive awards for its focus on ecological farm management. They even are in the Michigan Christmas Tree Association’s Growers Hall of Fame. The trees are large, well formed and groomed to perfection here.

Blakes Farms

You may know Blakes in the Almont/Romeo area for its apples, orchards and fall fun. But they also have a great tree farm and family-focused experiences for the winter holidays. The wagon drives you out to the trees for you to select your personal favorite. Then, you can ride back and experience the Tasting Room with kid and adult beverages and Cider Mill, which are open year around.

Huron Christmas Tree Farm

This Metro Detroit farm in New Boston opens right before Thanksgiving to let people start selecting their tree and getting right to decorating. They carry trees as tall as nine feet and they also have Santa visits so you can make a whole day of it. Make sure to have some hot chocolate as well.
